Derek and I managed to pull together a podcast before heading out for a night of debauchery (him) or being in bed by 10:30 (me). This week we attack the year in television - talking about shows that tried to do something daring and interesting and were successful and others who failed as they reached for greatness.
It happens.
Plus Derek shares his adventures working on a float for the Rose Bowl Parade and I give my first ever game review. Terrifying!
If you see a float with a big eagle on it and lots of teenagers singing, look at the black highlights on the right wing. That is Derek's handiwork!
And once again I plead for an Itunes review. Happy New Year!

I'm sure you're anxiously loading stuff onto your mp3 player to help make that long drive or flight to grandma's house a little easier. I know I am!
Might I offer up the latest episode of The Big Red Blog podcast? I lured Deeps into chatting with me about the
Showtime series Dexter. I'll say it - Dexter is the best new show on television.
If you haven't watched the show or read the books and don't want to be spoiled, you should skip this week's installment. But if you'd like to hear about the most compelling and disturbing character on television then please, by all means,

We were experimenting with a new podcast set-up, and while the sound wasn't that great I didn't realize how bad it turned out until today. So we've replaced the bad podcast from Sunday (podcast121706) with one recorded tonight with my very special co-host Deeps!
Oh yes, I finally lured him into helping me out on the podcast. We miss Derek, but I think Deeps and I can manage. This tried to recreate as much as we could from the previous podcast with better sound (although it could be better). So please enjoy!

This week Derek shares his thoughts about a couple of video games like F.E.A.R. and something about Rainbows and terrorists. Sounds progressive to me. I review
Christopher Moore's book Fluke and suggest you pick up The Stupidest Angel if you like zombie Santas. Plus we chat about this week's best television and preview what's coming for 2007.
*I deleted this podcast because the sound quality was so bad it wasn't worth the bandwidth. So my apologies if you tried to listen.

I'm sponsoring The Big Red Blog's Decemberstravaganza by raising a modest $200 for
DonorsChoose.org.
This campaign will fund reading projects for kids at public schools in Indiana. You may not know that I'm a former Hoosier now living in New England. I thought this would be a great way to give back to the schools that helped me growing up while encouraging kids to read. We like all culture - not just the delicious "pop" variety.

This week Derek and I tackle Earl, Scrubs, The OC, Dexter and Heroes. Who knew The OC was good again? Sadly, Earl continues his downward spiral, Scrubs is dealing with swollen ankles and lots of plot, while Dexter faces a past he can't really remember. That can't end well....
TV is good again, didn't you hear?

This week on the podcast, Derek returns to talk about why he loves Heroes, the allegedly triumphant return of Scrubs, the glory of Ed Helms on The Office, and he's ready to forgive Veronica Mars for being a big dummy. I'm not so forgiving, but you already knew that.
Plus I throw in a random restaurant review for a place you'll never visit. Cheers!

I'm happy to report that despite being full of turkey and assorted starches, I managed to get a podcast done this week. Sure, television was a little bit light but I share my thoughts about Dexter, Veronica Mars and Heroes this week. I also talk about Sam Lipsyte's novel
The Subject Steve which would make an excellent gift... for someone as twisted as I am.
Happy Thanksgiving!

I also call it a studio. And it's a fantastic place to record a podcast, eat a meal or play cards. Not that anyone has ever gambled in this house. Nope. Never.

This week Derek and I talk turkey - yes, we're punny - about Borat,
The Position by Meg Wolitzer and the best that television has to offer us. We're happy with Dexter, stumped by Heroes, a little concerned about Veronica and quietly optimistic about Jim and Pam.
I share my interest in the Wii - even if I'm skeptical about the spelling.
Shows we discuss: Heroes, Veronica Mars, The OC, Bones, Dexter, How I Met Your Mother, Studio 60, Gilmore Girls, House, My Name is Earl, The Office, 30 Rock, Medium

Derek and two additional friends came by to participate in an (almost) hour long discussion about LOST - the fall finale, an episode breakdown and our predictions for the future. Oh the bitterness, it is almost totally unchecked.

Due to popular demand...
Okay, due to my own hair-brained idea I've secured a phone line for people to call in and leave me (and Derek) voicemail messages for the podcast.
We're going to run a very special LOST roundtable discussion podcast so if you'd like to share your thoughts about tonight's fall finale please call me at: 206-312-9599. And because my mother might be listening, please try to keep it clean.

We still spend a lot of time rambling and talking about television- after all it is the first week of sweeps. Who is pregnant? Who will die?
We also get to a correction*, make predictions about LOST, discuss the merits of Seventh Heaven (you can thank Derek for that), and I tell Derek about the book I read.

I lure my good friend and fellow TV addict Derek to my humble recording studio (also known as my dining room) to talk about all the shows on TV. Seriously, we talked for an hour and covered everything from One Tree Hill and Seventh Heaven to CSI and Battlestar Galactica.
